Ochiken: This is ROCK KIDS 802 OCHIKEN Goes ON!! with your host, Kentaro Ochiai, from FM802.
Welcome back to the show. Our next guest is… Mr. Fujii Kaze!

Kaze and Ochiken spoke this part in English.

Kaze: Thank you so much for having me.

Ochiken: How are you, Kaze-kun?

Kaze:  I’m doing alright, how are you, Ochigen-san.

Ochiken: I’m doing fantastic. I’m doing fabulous.

Kaze:  Good to hear.

Ochiken: It’s been a while.

Kaze:  Definitely been a while.

Ochiken: Tell me how’s going right now? Doing good?

Kaze:  Yeah, trying to live a good life.

Ochiken: Thank you for stopping by my show.

Kaze:  My pleasure.

Ochiken: So, today’s guest is Fujii Kaze!

Kaze: Thank you.

Ochiken: Really glad to have you here. I’m connected with Kaze online now; it’s been exactly two years since you last appeared on Rock Kids.

Kaze: Oh my.

Ochiken: Ahaha!

Kaze: It’s really been a while.

Ochiken: It’s been two years! You came here last time on the release date of your second album “Love All Serve All.”

Kaze: Yeah, that’s right.

Ochiken: Kaze came to this studio where I am now two years ago, for the segment “Fujii Kaze ga ALL!”

Kaze: “Fujii Kaze ga ALL!”?

Ochiken: Yeah, exactly! That was the very title of the segment. It’s a play on words: it combines “All” from “Fujii Kaze is here ‘Oru’ in Japanese*” with “All” from your second album title. And “Goes On” is taken from our radio show’s title. It was already two years ago.

*Ochiai mentions here that “Oru” sounds similar to “All”.

Kaze: Oh, really? That’s how it got its title.

Ochiken: Exactly. Did you need two years to realize that?

Kaze: That makes sense now.

Ochiken: But for these two years, your music has been spreading all over the world. How do you feel about that personally?

Kaze: These past two years, it feels like time just flew by while I was focused solely on tackling whatever was right in front of me, thankfully.

Ochiken: Uh-huh. You know, I think it’s been quite a year for you, with your overseas activities expanding so much.

Kaze: Yeah, that’s right. I’ve had the opportunity to do an Asian tour and such.

Ochiken: What are your thoughts on overseas activities like that? Do you enjoy them?

Kaze: Definitely, I do. I hope to maintain the same spirit no matter where I go.

Ochiken: Uh-huh.

Kaze: I wish I could share all the experiences I’ve had in Japan wherever I go. Whether in Japan or elsewhere, I believe I need to continue evolving.

Ociken: Yeah, I feel like the sound of Fujii Kaze that you’re able to deliver to the world has truly evolved.

Kaze: Thank you so much.

Ociken:  You’ve worked with overseas producers, right? You collaborated with DJ Dahi on ‘Workin’ Hard’, and with A.G. Cook on ‘Hana’, correct? Was that experience stimulating for you?

Kaze: Yeah, well, you could say that, but actually what I did with them was, in a good way, an extension of what I’d been doing.

Note: “In a good way” is Kaze’s pet phrase.

Ociken:  We freely exchanged ideas and worked together to create our music.

Kaze: I did my best to verbalize what was in my head and convey it to them. Then, they gave back the sounds I wanted. That way I think I was able to work with them just like I did with Yaffle.

Ochiken: Right. No doubt the music that you and Yaffle have been creating is truly amazing. And now, there is this music that you created with the overseas producers I mentioned, For example, when I listened to “Workin’ Hard”, I felt that the piano sounded very impressive – thicker and more powerful than before. I think your listeners have also discovered new fascinating elements in your music. In fact, I have a lot of things I’d like to ask you about your music. Today, we’d like to talk a lot about your new song, “Overflowing.” But even before that, we’ve received a lot of great news from Kaze! The Tiny Desk Concerts Japan that aired last weekend in Japan was amazing!

Kaze: I’m really glad; it was truly enjoyable.

Ochiken: First of all, you had blond hair back then. I thought, “Kaze has blond hair!”

Kaze: You’re absolutely right.

Ochiken: It looks good on you.

Kaze: I’ve never had my hair this bright before. I kind of showed my blond hair for the first time at the Tiny Desk Concerts.

Ochiken: Uh-huh.

Kaze: It’s no wonder you’re surprised.

Ochiken: I’m actually just looking at you online right now, Kaze, and it really suits you.

Kaze: Hahaha!

Ochiken: Seriously, you look amazing!

Kaze: I’m happy. This hair color is really nice, isn’t it?

Ochiken: Awesome. When you appeared wearing those sunglasses at the Tiny Desk Concerts, I thought, ‘Oh! Kaze looks quite different. I like this cool-looking Kaze, too.’

Kaze: Yeah. I wanted to look stylsh and cool.

Ochiken: The Tiny Desk Concerts we’re discussing now are popular music concert series in the US, featuring artists performing at a tiny desk in an office. The first guest on the Japanese version was Kaze. What was the deciding factor or reason you thought you would like to appear in the Tiny Desk Concerts?

Kaze: I’ve been a fan of the Tiny Desk Concerts channel, so I used to watch it. I’ve watched that channel enough to wonder what I would do if I were on it. I didn’t expect Tiny Desk Concerts to give me and air its Japanese version. But when they offered me the job, I felt an instant connection with them. I was grateful to accept the offer.
